EDT Diecasting Technology (Suzhou) casts door shafts and hinge arms in zinc and aluminium for appliance makers. The parts are curved, so the pivot boss and limit features are integrated in the casting instead of being machined or welded on, and machining brings the pivot fit to tolerance.
Curved arm as cast — The arc and profile are formed with the part, avoiding the spring-back and angle variation of bending and keeping door opening consistent.
Pivot bosses and stops — Pivot seats, stop bosses and limit faces are cast in, with CNC machining controlling concentricity and clearance.
Wear resistance and strength — Zinc alloy offers good bearing behaviour and dimensional stability for frequent opening, while fillets and wall thickness add strength at load points.
Easy assembly — Locating features and clips can be cast in, cutting parts and operations on the assembly line.
Finish options — Sand blasting, painting, e-coating or plating is available for appearance, wear and corrosion.
Concentricity and wear at the pivot are the critical characteristics. Assembly relationships and running clearance are agreed first, then the pivot bore and mating faces are machined after casting, with bushes added where needed. Finished parts are inspected for critical dimensions and appearance, and verified by an opening and closing simulation.
Used for hinges and door shafts on washing machines, refrigerators, ovens and microwave ovens, and also for cabinets, lockers and small equipment doors.
